I saw this event being advertised and I was keen on attending, as I grew up listening to all the Veteran Calypsonians because of my parents. As young as I was my parents used to drag us to some calypso tents, and from since then I grew to love an appreciate the art form that is old time calypso and respect the Calypsonians such as Black Stalin. So if you looking for me on Saturday the 3rd I will definitely be taking in the Biography of Black Stalin.

'Come With It, Black Man: A Biography of Black Stalin's Consciousness' is a sixty minute documentary on the work of legendary Trinidadian calypsonian Dr. Leroy Calliste - Black Stalin.

The film asks: Why is it important to know Black Stalin's music? The narrative highlights the singer's ideology, merit as a five time Calypso Monarch, Honorary Doctorate recipient and prodigious cultural hero of Trinidad and Tobago. Interviews with the likes of Kees Dieffenthaller, David Rudder, Dr Roy Cape, Denyse Plummer, JW and Blaze, Nadia Batson and the late Dr Patricia Bishop, are sandwiched between some of Stalin's most memorable and masterful performances.

'Come With It, Black Man' is informative and engaging in its approach, to re-discovering the Conscious Calypso that Black Stalin is celebrated for. The film promotes the role and relevance of Calypso and the universal, enduring messages of Black Stalin to young generations, the Diaspora and wider international audiences.

This is a story that matters.

40 Days till NHC !!!!!!

So its official its 40 days left until NHC and after the hype for all the Band launches are now officially over I have lost the vibe ...*cries*  I am not hyped any more. *criesagain* :(

I guess last year I remembered Shipwrecked Mas Band having an AWL (After work lime) every week leading up to NHC, and as it was in Central London, it was easy for me to get to, and that definitely got people (me) in the mood for Nottinghill Carnival and as we Trinis love to lime it was just perfect to chill back to some Soca after work and drink a lil beer.. ( I could do with a cold Carib now tho...lol lol lol  )... So it was bummer for me when I heard Shipwrecked took a back seat this year from all things Carnival related. I thought 'jah!!!! no limes, nothing...what will i do?', cause is not all d time yuh really want to go a soca party, a nice lime could work, THEN I  saw just 3 advertised AWL. 1) Euphoria AWL with Soca Karakoe. My only problem is that this AWL is on a Thursday would much prefer a Friday...  2) Caribbean Culture with there fantastic Fridays in West London and  3) Trini Posse on Fridays @ Jewel Bar Picadilly, I guess they are picking up where shipwrecked left off as they are usings shipwrecked old lime spot..lol..  Hopefully these AWL will definitely get my vibe back up...cause I need it...

So for those in search of a lil Soca and a Carnival Vibe , i guess take a lil visit  to either one of these AWL's.. Euphoria AWL in Central London (this will not be a regular weekly event its listed on their flyer as 18th July and 15th August.) Ipswich Art Festival In pictures

Saturday the 29th of June saw Ipswich come alive with a fantastic celebration of T&T's culture. This event was sponsored by the Trinidad and Tobago High Commission to the United Kingdom, and they put together a wonderful cultural display that brought together large crowds to experience what a true celebration of Trinidad and Tobago’s music, cuisine and culture is all about at the annual Ip-Art Festival held at the scenic Christchurch Park in Ipswich, UK.
